• File Location

    Overview

Starting with Fox Village Dressage 2008 Update 1.0.7, we are changing the default file location of Fox Village Dressage from "Program Files\FVD" to "My Documents\FVD". This has been brought about because of Microsoft's changes in their last two operating systems (Windows Vista and Windows 7). Please see below for more details.

  • Background - Program Files and Windows Vista/7

Previous to Update 1.0.7, Fox Village Dressage was installed in the "FVD" folder under "Program Files" by default. The full file path looked like this: C:\Program Files\FVD\. When Microsoft released Windows Vista and later Windows 7, it made it difficult for us to install to the same location without turning off UAC, manually installing it for you, etc. For those of you still using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, this has not been an issue.

  • Solution - My Documents

After reviewing what would and wouldn't work to get around this, we finally decided to move the default location of the "FVD" folder to the user's documents folder. UAC does not bother the installation if we deploy to that location.

  • For Windows 2000 and Windows XP users, the full path to that location is: C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\My Documents.

  • For Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, the full path to that location is: C:\Users\[user_name]\My Documents. Depending upon how you are getting to this folder, Windows Vista and Windows 7 may simply refer to this folder as "Documents".

  • Required - Windows Vista and Window 7

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you are required to use the "My Documents" folder to install and user Fox Village Dressage. The full path to our program files will be: C:\Users\[user_name]\My Documents\FVD. All the documentation on our website will refer to this location which is abbreviated as "My Documents\FVD".

  • An Option - Windows 2000 and Window XP

If you are using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you have the option of continuing to user the current location of your "FVD", which is most likely located at: C:\Program Files\FVD OR moving your "FVD" folder to "My Documents" which is located at: C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name\My Documents\FVD.

  • If you choose to leave the files at their current location, you will need to take that into account when following the instructions on downloading files to the "FVD" folder.

  • If you choose to move your files to "My Documents", all you need to do is move the "FVD" folder and all its content to "My Documents", then open FVD.mde and Repair all links. If you have an shortcut on your desktop, you will either need to change the target or simply create a new shortcut to FVD.mde.

  • Note: If you are having troubles following the above instructions, paid support is available.
